Drawings of everyday life

Old drawings

I visited my parents this weekend and found some old drawings and paintings I made in 1982, thirty years ago when I was 15 years old. They were made during a drawing class I visited once a week during one year. The charcoal sketch I liked at that time, but I found painting in acrylic so difficult and disappointing, that was one of the reasons I stopped.

  1. Getting the right material relationship makes all the difference for the artist. I used to like acrylic and then one day it wasn’t fluid enough for me anymore. You can add water but it’s a messy hassle.

    • Thanks Mary for the comment. When I now work with indian ink, gouache or (liquid) water colour, I just hate it that I have to clean up afterwards. My natural reaction to this would be: don’t be silly. But since I only draw for my own pleasure, why should I do something I hate? Maybe some day it will change and the pleasure of working with these materials will be bigger than my adversity against the cleaning up.
